Mr. Champagne has extensive experience in private equity real estate having worked in a variety of roles throughout his career including asset management, fund sourcing and management, portfolio management, business development, client relations, asset dispositions, commercial lending and valuation. He has hands-on experience in all property types including office, multifamily, industrial, retail and hotel. Mr. Champagne has specific expertise in higher risk ground-up development and value-add investment strategies for equity real estate.
Mr. Champagne honed his institutional real estate skills at Cigna Realty Investors, the real estate investment platform of Cigna Corporation, where he had multiple roles over a 20-year career. Mr. Champagne was a voting member of the real estate investment committee and one of four senior leaders of the real estate group that was responsible for the performance of a $5.0 billion equity and debt real estate investment portfolio. Mr. Champagne started as an asset manager for a portfolio of assets including regional malls, luxury hotels, industrial properties and multi-building office campuses. His career evolved into senior-level responsibilities including Head of Asset Management and Head of Fund Investments.
Mr. Champagne began his career in 1985 for a New England region, Connecticut-based real estate appraisal firm. Mr. Champagne performed numerous appraisals for commercial properties primarily in Hartford County and was widely recognized as an expert on the greater Hartford office market having made speeches for industry groups and published articles for local and regional trade publications. Mr. Champagne was elevated to partner in 1990. Mr. Champagne then became a review appraiser with UBS Realty Investors, overseeing the quarterly valuation of a $2.0 billion real estate investment portfolio.
